We are a 501c3 nonprofit mentoring and training organization that is promoting the connection between cultural heritage, food and a healthy environment.
We cook up healthy futures for vulnerable families through cultural exhibits, mobile, hands-on cooking experiences for adults and kids, and community events.
After 30 years of teaching cooking and nutrition, journalist Toni Tipton-Martin founded SANDE as a grassroots outreach to improve lives. With just $500 and the promise of lease space in an historic landmark, she formed the organization to provide cooking, nutrition, and cultural education for the community, while preserving and celebrating the rich legacy of hospitality. SANDE accomplishes these goals through two signature events: The Children’s Picnic A Real Food Fair, and Soul Summit: A Conversation About Race, Identity, Power and Food.
